PIK AEI System for the X-ray analysis of reservoir properties of core samples

Automated programmed measurement system PIK-AEI is intended for the detection of relative phase permeability of core samples in reservoir conditions.

The system includes X-ray system to measure three-phase saturation (liquid/liquid/gas). X-ray transparent coreholder of composite material makes it possible to perform radiography of a core sample under reservoir pressure and temperature.

The system can determine the saturation in each point of core (2D image of saturation) thus allowing visual observation of the fluid filtration process and monitoring of current saturation value.

Capabilities

The PIK AEI system can determine the following core parameters:
  • two-phase relative permeabilities of core for the components of a "liquid/liquid" flow according to OST 39-235-89 standard;
  • residual oil saturation;
  • effective porosity in reservoir conditions;
  • effective porosity change depending on variation of reservoir conditions;
  • liquid permeability coefficient;
  • non-stationary processes;
  • effect of chemicals on oil recovery.
X-ray core image

PIK AEI is equipped with two-plunger pumps. In order to maintain reservoir temperature of the sample, the coreholder is heated, and the liquid run through it are pre-heated in a continuous-flow heater. The software of the system controls the operation and data acquisition.

Cells for proppant conductivity studies

API-61 cell is intended for proppant conductivity studies. To perform a measurement, proppant is placed between the two planes of the cell. A cell modeling a fracture is placed in a hydraulic press. A prepared pre-heated liquid is pumped through the proppant pack. At a fixed compression of the pack, the following parameters are measured: pressure difference, flow rate and fracture width.
